After a year of competing head-to-head and vying for supremacy, cheers that echo from the sidelines have fallen silent as the inaugural year of Siglakas+ came into its final nest on April 5, 2025.
As the season’s curtain closes, SWUNext claims the overall championship prestige in an evident showdown, followed by the College of Dentistry and the community’s youngest, the Senior High School department, in second and third, respectively.
In its experimental phase, the year-long Siglakas+ demonstrated a barely realized transition from its week-long counterpart. Critiques voiced by the Cobras and experiences shared by the admins painted a picture of this year’s Siglakas+ as a landscape ripe for cultivation and improvement.
In an interview with The Quill, Vice President for Student Life Maita Magalong expressed this season’s challenges in its rebirth.
“Siglakas+ is like, it’s so new. It had its challenges, many challenges actually. I think, you know, coming from what used to be a one-week event to all of a sudden a year-long event—really had a lot of people adjusting to it,” Magalong said.
Despite the trials, the aforementioned still appraised Siglakas+ as it reached its summit.
“I’d like to believe it still made a lot of students happy and that was evident with the involvement of the players and the commitment they have to play the games, and that much I can say, it was successful,” she added.
In another interview with The Quill, SWU Athletic Director Pio Gerardo Solon expressed optimism about the upcoming season, expecting this year’s challenges to result in significant progress.
“We want to make it bigger and better as the resources allow. Resources are not just financial, but it’s also the time. And so depending on how much time everybody else has and depending also on the students, so we always take feedback,” he said.
Meanwhile, a different narrative resonated on the other side of the court, underscored by a call for administrative empathy.
School of Design and Communication (sd+c) House Representative Maria Leamae Patagnan shared her grievance on the matter.
“Coming from a department with little funds, we wish we could’ve prioritized our long-term projects more that can benefit our own student body… Nevertheless, I look forward to Siglakas as a one-month event for future students to look forward to,” she said.
As Siglakas+ trips to another season, another potential rebirth brews as next season is expected to have a month-long transition from this season’s year-round trip, clasping the sideline whether this would be another hurdle to overcome or a step-up from this season’s crash.
