Recently, the dictator’s son, President Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr., made rounds in social media as he delivered his first State of the Nation Address (SONA), last July 25, 2022, Monday, at the Batasang Pambansa, Quezon City which was also nationally televised.

He unveiled his plans for the people, and the country in his six-year term in office for an hour and 14 minutes, composing a 19-point legislative agenda addressing dilemmas in economy, agriculture,  food security, tourism, calamity response, education, digitalization, violence vs. women and children, health sector, transportation, and migration, among others.

However, much to the dismay of the viewers, he failed to address more important issues that hounded the Duterte administration — human rights, justice, peace, drugs, and accountability.

Instead, he focused on babbling about infrastructures over reforms in the key sectors of society, intentionally neglecting the fact why the Philippines is downgraded in the first place.

Marcos’ speech stirred up netizens as it was only filled with sugar-coated lies, ambitious plans, unrealistic expectations, and toxic positivity to satisfy his lust for validation, and glory.

Thus, ending his SONA with an optimistic tone, believing that the essence of the Filipino resiliency is enough to save ourselves in the drowning waters brought by the COVID-19 pandemic, proves his incompetency and unwillingness to help the people and initiate change for better ways of living.

Additionally, his landslide victory, in the May 9, 2022, national elections, further explains that despite being involved in controversial issues including his ill-gotten wealth, 203 billion tax debt, use of black propaganda, historical revisionism, bloody martial law, fake diploma in his education, wherein he remained mum due to  selfish intents, Filipinos endure living in deceit and ignorance, in this age of information disorder.

With this, let us keep in mind to keep the Filipino spirits burning, ever remain undimmed.

It is not too late to spearhead change and set a good example for society.

This is only the beginning of our fight for freedom and the truth.
