With Otso Diretso candidates falling behind pre-election polls, they once again visited vote-rich province of Cebu to up their game in the campaign trail, this time, with former President Benigno Aquino III in Southwestern University PHINMA during the Manindigan Democracy Forum on Tuesday, March 26.
Seven weeks before the midterms election, the slate has admitted in an interview that although they lack the government’s machinery for the campaign, they have the support of the former president. Aquino stated that he is making himself available in whatever way he could help in the campaign of Otso Diretso.
“’Yon trabaho ko iyong paano ba natin maipapakalat sa taong bayan na ito ang kandidato ng Otso Diretso,” the former president said.
In an interview with The Quill, Marawi civic leader and senatorial candidate Samira Gutoc said that they need the millennial generation to speak up. “Wala kaming pang billboard, wala kaming pang ads but we sure have the shantay millennial,” said Gutoc.
Lawyer and senatorial candidate Jose Manuel “Chel” Diokno, in a separate interview with The Quill stated that his recent survey increase means that people are looking for justice in the country and that he is “happy” with the reaction he is getting from young people.
“‘Yong voting population natin ngayon, halos more than majority ay kabataan na. And I really do hope that all you young people come out and vote and use your vote as wisely as you can. This is going to determine your future…,” Diokno said.
Aquino and the slate will be at the IEC Convention Center in the evening after the forum.
