Chaos ensues as multiple screenshots have recently spread across social media garnering attention of alleged kidnapping incidents in Cebu.
Mass panic has taken among students since August 22, 2022 due to multiples posts and chain messages forwarded in group chats, as students from different universities add more information regarding the incidents.
Nonetheless, warnings were emphasized on avoiding assistance towards strangers namely the elderly and children, as they are used to lure their victims in a white van.
These speculations joined with the beginning of the A.Y. 2022-2023, and the transitioning towards face-to-face classes. With this, students are antsy for their safety.
The anti-kidnapping group of the Police Regional Office (PRO)-7 last August 24, 2022 have dispelled the reports as no official reports have been received by the task force.
They advised the public to avoid posting of fake news, especially of they have no ground basis of such incidents.
Despite the lack of reports, authorities urged any victims to come forward. Cebu City Councilor Philip Zafra, chairman of the City Council committee on peace and order, stated regardless of the reports being negative, they promised to be proactive in keeping locals safe, especially students.
The safety of every civilian should be of utmost importance. Even with these claims being false, protocols are still to be observed of every individual.
Students should be mindful of the ABCDs, commonly known as “Always Be Careful, Dear” to remember to keep yourself from harm and stay safe.
