Why should women be given important roles and positions as men do?

For centuries, the political sphere across the globe had been centered toward masculism, where men dominate the playing field setting aside authentic qualifications for women to be part of the game too.

Regarded themselves as the beacon of a light house, men fail to recognize women’s capacity to lead and take charge in the same manner men do.

Throughout the years, masculinists degrade and quash the idea of placing their gender counterpart in an important role of leadership and service. But were their efforts and results visible enough to create change for the better? We give it up to you to decide.

The Quill randomly selected participants from the different colleges to take part in this Pulse. Hear out and reflect upon their insights as they answer the question: “Why should women be given important roles and positions as men do?”

Living in a patriarchal household, I and four of my brothers were raised given equal roles and opportunities growing up and I never saw this as a way of life but rather a privilege. There are no differences between a woman and a man because just like the latter, women are independent, empowered, and self-reliant. Women can do anything but what sets us apart from men is that we have the power to change the world in our own little ways. As we move along the later years of the 21st century, it is important to take note that now is the time to let every women fuel the fire of their core and close the gap of gender differences.

Constancia II B. Lucero, College of Pharmacy

Gender equality is essential for economic prosperity and will prevent violence or chaos in this world. Women should be given important roles as men do for the reason that one’s skills, talents, and knowledge does not come with its gender or sexuality. The stereotype of men being the alpha in the society should already come to an end; everyone can lead and play important roles based on his or her capabilities.

Rheann Umil, School of Dentistry

Woman have occasionally felt pressure to act or look a certain way based on their gender. This pressure is like over taking the will of every woman to express themselves to excel in their chosen careers or flatform , stereotypes or “rules” about how woman should begin in their childhood and follow them through to adulthood ,if they are being asked to be and act in a way that does not match who they really are It only presents that Gender Inequality affects everyone, It affects every woman. Where would we be without women of strength, women of courage and women of faith, we should always remember that the most impactful influence in our lives are the women that have raised us, guided us, taught us and a person who brought us to life and that is our Mother. Today woman have more freedom than ever to express themselves in ways that feel true to who they are and what they could do and offer, regardless of their gender, for me that’s enough to be revolutionary in a way that woman should be given important roles as men do.

Jean Carlo C. Cantay, College of Rehabilitative Sciences

When I was still in elementary, my father left us while my brother was in the city studying. Me, my Mama, my sister and the cousin of my mother were the ones left at home. At that point in my life, I’ve come to realize that I should learn and practice what men usually do because I want to show and prove to them that we can still survive without men in our lives. Just like men, women are capable of anything. Therefore, gender is not a measurement of how we excel in doing things.

Aica Presbitero, College of Medical Technology

As a human, I believe in gender equality and we need to understand what is gender quality. It is not about the roles but what is important is what we can do as a person. As you can see women now a days is bolder and powerful because we believe that we can, and we can contribute through emotional, spiritual, physical, and mental well being. Thats what makes women extraordinary. Gender should not be a limit as to what one is capable of doing. Women should be given important roles as me do because I believe women are as compitent and capable of what a man can do, sometimes even more.

Saharah D. Boromeo, College of Pre-Medicine
